People from all walks of life, regardless of the gender and age may be affected by this skin disease. The symptoms of this skin disease may vary widely. Some may experience blistering of the skin, some may have red patches all over their bodies and others may even have worse.

The treatments may also vary from one person to another. The most effective treatment for psoriasis to one may not exactly be the same for the other. Just like the variation of the symptoms, the treatments also differ from one person to another. What works for one may not exactly work well for the others.

There is no definite cure yet but there are various treatments that can relieve the itchiness and inflammation of the skin. The most effective treatment for psoriasis may pose serious negative side effects to the patient that is why it is usually the last resort.

People suffering from psoriasis should always moisturize their skin. They need to use lotions and moisturizers daily to make sure that their skin has enough moisture. Dry skin usually causes or triggers the flare-ups and this is what the patients should avoid or prevent from happening.

Topical creams and ointments may be prescribed by the dermatologist to relieve the itching. If they fail, phototherapy and photochemotherapy should then be used to treat the patient. This is done by exposing the affected area to some light.

Sometimes steroidal medications are also used to relieve the itchiness but the use of this kind of medication must be limited.

When all else fail, the dermatologist may opt to use methotrexate therapy. This is considered to be the most effective treatment for psoriasis because it lowers the body’s immune system reaction and prevents the inflammation of the skin, relieving the itchiness and minimizing the appearance of the red patches. The bad thing is, methotrexate pills and injections have many serious negative side effects.
